So frightening Amanda at Hever Castle wasn't the only thing we accomplished during Ginny and Lenae's visit. We also introduced them to our local cheese monger,
Met Santa,
and had a brief instructional course on driving from the right hand side of the car.
One of the things I learned about Lenae during her stay with us was that she likes cemeteries so it was a good thing our stop at Hever Castle just happened to be right next to a very old cemetery. Following, Amanda's scare, courtesy of yours truly, and a walk through the cemetery it was time for lunch. The girls had read about a pub that was supposedly really close to Hever Castle that sounded like it would be a great place to stop. Unfortunately, I misunderstood where the directions were supposed to lead me and rather than reading the sign for the King Henry VIII historic pub that was directly in front of me I turned right out of the Castle grounds and proceeded down the winding British countryside in search of the very pub I had just left behind. After about half an hour of searching we decided to head back towards the Castle to see if we'd indeed missed something and much to my dismay there it was, in all its glory, perched as close to the road as you could possibly put a building with a large sign clearly visible from where we had departed from the Castle.
Throughout the week Amanda and I took turns sharing some of our favorite places in London such as a Sunday Service at Westminster Abbey, a trip to the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Camden Town Markets and since it Christmas time the German Markets at South Bank on the Thames. We even managed to squeeze in some time for scones. We certainly hope Ginny and Lenae had a wonderful trip and we certainly enjoyed hosting them. Now we just need to figure out who the next guests are we can entice to come and visit us!
