I think we needed a bigger boat!

A quick word on our transit of the Irish Sea. ROUGH!

Our originally scheduled crossing which was supposed to take place early on the 24th was actually canceled due to high winds and rough seas meaning we had to re-book for the later ferry. Thankfully there were still spots available for most everyone who had booked the early crossing so we managed to make it on the second boat for the afternoon crossing. However, the seas had not really subsided much during the day and the ferry company decided to delay the 2:00PM departure for another two and half hours. Instead of leaving from Holyhead on our original schedule at 9:30 AM and arriving in Dublin a little after noon, with plenty of time to drive to the cabin we rented in County Cork, we actually didn't leave until after 4:30PM and arrived in Dublin after 9:00PM.

Once on board we did manage to find what was supposed to be a locked conference room away from all the other passengers so we could at least suffer through our voyage in some peace. It was so rough we spent the entire four and a half hours simply trying to avoid being sick, and while I think we largely accomplished this many did not with the young children suffering more than most. As Amanda noted, what can you tell an infant or toddler to help make them feel better when the pitching and yawing of the ship complete flips your sense of balance? It was an absolutely terrible way to spend Christmas Eve but we managed to make port in Dublin safe and sound before our 2 hour drive to the cabin.
