Mush!

One of the things we most looked forward to on this cruise was getting to go to the Husky Drive Adventure. (Or as Amanda called it...Playing with puppies)

Our instructor explaining how to stop the sled if the dogs start to run away.

Explaining how it's more fun to ride in the sled than to run infront of it.

For this excursion I "drove" the sled and recorded the experience on my handy GoPro Camera while Amanda took in the sights from the front of the sled and captured some amazing photos. Before we were allowed on the sleds however we were given some instruction on how to "steer" the sled and what would happen if we ever let go of the sled while we were on the paths. To put it plainly the once the dogs start running they absolutely will not stop unless you apply the brakes. The brakes are really nothing more than a metal grate covered in carpet set between the runners of the sled and when you stepped on it the sled become harder for the dogs to pull and they then suspected it might be time to stop.  Of course as you'll see from the video's the team's of dogs didn't always stop immediately once the brakes were applied.

Every time we stopped, at least one of dogs would lay down.  Rest when you can, I guess.

After our time on the sleds, we all gathered in a traditionally styled hut for tea and brownies and I swear it was one of the best brownies I've ever had. During our break, the woman who owns the business told us about her life as a competitive dogsled racer regularly competing in the Finnmarkslopet and once in the Iditarod. She had some amazing stories to tell and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

This video is a shortened version of the nearly 50 minute ride we took.  Despite the shouts you hear throughout, no Amanda's were injured in the making of this film.
